Yes! Please stop holding that chip on a pedistal. Is was popular because it was a chip that was Very cheap for it's day and age. That time has passed. For today the 16F690 with internal clock and a much wider assorment of preifals are avilble for the less then the price of the 16F84.
If you you want to dive in a bit deeper water then go with the 16F727. Now that is a chip!
